2026 LES SACRES; Dutch premiere of the musicpaintingLIVE performance of Stravinsky’s ‘Le Sacre du Printemps’ in a groundbreaking synergy between pianist Reinis Zarins
and music painter Maryleen Schiltkamp
Podium Mozaiek, Amsterdam; Sunday, 26 April, 17:00 Trailer

Three piano works of ritualistic intensity culminate in the ultimate rite: Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps, reimagined in a groundbreaking collaboration between pianist Reinis Zariņš and visual artist Maryleen Schiltkamp.
Crumb’s genesis. Wagner’s metamorphosis. Rzewski’s awakening. And, at the heart, Stravinsky’s mystic ritual that culminates in a terrifying act of sacrifice. This is LES SACRES

At the core of the programme is Stravinsky’s iconic masterpiece, transformed into live performance art where music and painting unfold in perfect synchronicity. On large-scale canvases, using a striking palette and unorthodox techniques, Schiltkamp paints the primal energy and harrowing story embedded in Stravinsky’s music, mirroring it in real time.

Originally conceived as a ballet, Le Sacre was expressed in movement—its ancient rituals evoked through dance-games, mystical circles, tribal rivalries and a climactic sacrificial dance. In this production, the artists offer an equally visceral form of expression. Pianist Reinis Zariņš takes on the monumental orchestral score at the keyboard, while Maryleen Schiltkamp transforms the stage into a living canvas. By their synergy, sound becomes image, and Le Sacre emerges as an immersive, raw, and cathartic rite of art.

Chopin piano recital by Maria Prokofieva

Chopin piano recital by Maria Prokofieva at Amstelkerk, Amsterdam, 14 December, 15:30
https://stadsherstel.nl/cultuuragenda/maria-prokofieva organized by the LiveART Foundation.

“Chopin’s heart, soul and spirit”

Pianist Maria Prokofieva will dedicate an entire piano recital to Frederic Chopin: Mazurkas, Nocturnes, Polonaises, Valses, Preludes, Scherzo.

Maria says: “Chopin is loved by musicians and music lovers from all over the world. His music is eternal and will always be. Chopin was a Polish composer and through my grandmother I myself have Polish descent.

His music is full of Slavic feelings, intimate emotions and expressiveness that are immediately recognisable and unique to him. His music touches your soul in a special way, like no other composer. His melodies go straight to your heart. His musical language is so poetic that no words are needed to tell it.

He dedicated many pieces to his homeland, which he left because of the Polish-Russian war of 1830-1831. He was 20 years old at the time.

National genres of Mazurka, Krakowiak, Polonaise and Polish folk themes were often used by him in his works, always bringing memories of his motherland.

This makes Chopin a very special composer in my heart. Especially today, when I can fully feel the message of his music. Sweet memories, tears, joy, pain, nostalgia and liberation all merge into one catharsis of emotions.

And when you really feel it, you can tell and express so much as an artist through music.”

Maria Prokofieva is a beloved pianist who has her life and career in the Netherlands.
